What we can't check

  • Whether it's paid off. We can't confirm whether this phone is paid off. If it's still being financed, the carrier could report it and lock it later. Ask the seller to show it's paid off in their carrier app.
  • Google account lock (after a reset, the phone asks for the previous owner's Google account). Not relevant for iPhone.
  • Physical condition: screen, battery, water damage, replaced parts.

Before you pay: 2-minute in-person test

  • Dial *#06# on the phone. The IMEI should end in 1234. If it doesn't, this report is for a different phone.
  • Seller signs out of iCloud in front of you (Settings > [name] > Sign Out) and Find My turns off.
  • Seller does a factory reset in front of you (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset > Erase All Content).
  • After reset, the setup screen should not ask for the previous owner's Apple ID.
  • Put in your own SIM and make a call or load a web page.
